Information about the People of Praise New Orleans Branch

The New Orleans branch of the People of Praise began in 1977, as the Community of Jesus the King. From the start, the community was in a training relationship with the People of Praise, which at that time was located only in South Bend. When the People of Praise began to build branches in other locations, the leaders of the Community of Jesus the King began discussing whether we, too, should become a branch. In August, 1985, we made a temporary commitment as a mission branch of the People of Praise. About a year later, in September, 1986, we decided to make that commitment permanent.

There are currently over 40 adult members of the People of Praise in New Orleans. We come from a variety of backgrounds and states in life: men, women, married, single, young and old. Our members are spread throughout the thriving cultural center of history, music and food that is New Orleans and its suburbs. We hold our meetings in Metairie, Louisiana.

Our children also participate in the life of the branch. A high point for them is Delta Camp, a summer camp sponsored by the central Gulf Coast branches of the community (Mobile, Biloxi, Shreveport, New Orleans). The camp is located in Biloxi and is open to children in the third through eighth grades.

The principal branch coordinator of the branch is Mike Coney. If you would like to know more about the People of Praise in New Orleans, call our branch office at 504-831-8215 or write to: People of Praise, 1629 Metairie Road, Metairie, LA 70005.
